    • RE: Strategy Results, Good? Bad? Okay?

the problem with testing out large sums of money is that it lies to you with your drawdown actual numbers. Just as you indicated, you would nearly need to start the account with $5000 just to maintain...that is some serious drawdown my friend.

As to the test only lasting 4 seconds...I can say for sure something is not right if its testing that fast. Are you on MT5 testing every real pip?

I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just getting you to realize some things now that will save you time in the future when you build EA's. I've built some monsters in history....but when I moved them to MT5 from MT4 and have achieved 100% history (which I still think is wrong), I realized my EA's were not as good as I thought...even though MT4 said the history was 90% efficient. There are several other factors and nuances I have learned on the way, but that advice would be a good start.

    • RE: MACD Crossover keeps losing money

you must start by disconnecting anything from under the buy and sell blocks.

Anything below that should be under a new starting block, "if position or if trade" then the conditions and close positions will follow.

for notes sake too, I am also on MT5 and have not tested to see if there is a problem with MT4. I recently switched from MT4 and I'm not going back.

    • RE: Stop loss below last candle

in the buy/sell now blocks, use a custom price level for the TP or SL...whatever you need. Then just select candle 1's low or high as the custom price level

@ferford mine does the same thing, perhaps someone else can enlighten us. I am able to import mine, I can see all the lines and build an EA as normal with the custom INDI. I can also use that indi in MT5, but only when I use the custom indi on an EA, my journal says theres a problem with the indi.

@seb-0 that looks pretty good. How does it look with a reasonable amount of money to start with? Like...$500 USD.

I'm also wondering how it only took 4 seconds to run that scenario.

    • RE: Keltner indicator not working

I too recently imported a custom EA into MT5 and when I then try to call on it in code, I can read in the journal it is producing an error. I abandoned the idea, but if someone here replies, I will see what their suggestion is and try to see if that helps me too.

is your journal giving you an error or are you not even abale to upload it to fxdreema?

yes, that is relatively easy with a bit of browsing through the forums, or instructional links from the creator.

    • RE: Robot with great backtest result bombs on live demo?

build your EA's like training physically. Practice for worse case scenarios. 10 spread is where I like to set the bar for all EA's to be able to perform at.

    • RE: Do you use your EA for live trading?

i optimize in steps...but I don't know really know what I'm doing..I just guess best and see what happens.

Depending on how the EA is performing over time and what you're trying to achieve is where I'd start. First you have to figure out what you're optimizing first. If entries is your concern, do you need to optimize time first or an indicator? That'll depend on results and strategy style too.

So many considerations its hard to say 1 thing.
